Citations from Okakura’s "The Book of Tea" are the cohesive tissue, and the tea drinking ritual is a dramatic arena for the confrontation of personal and public space in the joint video work by Sanja Iveković and Dalibor Martinis. Contrary to the tidiness and accentuated spiritual-meditative dimension of the Japanese ritual, the omnipresent background in this metaphorically impregnated and pseudo-narrative presentation of Croatian artists, is a TV screen image. Sanja Iveković (born 1949 in Zagreb) is a Croatian photographer, sculptor and installation artist. Her work is known to tackle such issues as female identity, media, consumerism, and political strife. Considered to be one of the leading artists from the former Yugoslavia.
Dalibor Martinis is a transmedia artist and a video maker. He has exhibited his works (videotapes, video/interactive and site-specific installations) in many international exhibitions such as Sao Paolo Biennale, Dokumenta, Venice Biennale, and film/video festivals in Berlin, Tokyo, Montreal, San Francisco, Locarno, Seattle, Bogota, Vienna, etc.
