DokuFest is thrilled to announce the Opening and Closing films of its 22nd edition.
In line with the central theme of the festival I AM AI AM I aiming to explore and bring into the discussion the phenomenon of Artificial Intelligence and its co-relation with us humans, the festival has decided to dedicate a small portion of its programming to the genre of sci-fi film.
Both opening and closing films will mark this tribute to the genre itself, as well as to the interpretation of Artificial Intelligence in the history of cinema.
The iconic 2001: A Space Odyssey by legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick will open the festival on 4th of August. Festival will close with the equally iconic sci-fi film, Blade Runner: Final Cut by Ridley Scott on 12th of August.
Opening Film
A landmark of science fiction cinema, a quaint artifact of the 1960s and undeniably one of the most beautiful, majestic films of all time, 2001: A Space Odyssey is Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece par excellence – an overwhelming space opera of visual dance and a film that envisioned a realistic, highly detailed future for human space travel.
Closing Film
Hailed as one of the all-time best science fiction films, a leading example of neo-noir cinema, and a foundational work of the cyberpunk genre, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner is a vision of Los Angeles in 2019 as a fabulous hell of skyscrapers and monolithic Fritz Lang factories.
It has taken 25 years and three cinema edits for Ridley Scott to arrive at the definitive new version of his science-fiction masterpiece, Blade Runner: The Final Cut and DokuFest is delighted to present this extended version as the closing film of the festival.
