This year, DokuFest, in partnership with RIDM - Rencontres Internationales du Documentaire de Montréal, has turned its attention toward Canada in order to shine a spotlight on contemporary documentary cinema from the province of Québec. The program offers a compelling overview of films by combining voices from different generations of creators. It reveals the works of award-winning filmmakers alongside emerging talents, and highlights the contributions of Indigenous filmmakers. Festivalgoers will discover the rich and multifaceted cinematic language of Québec, and the diversity of its creators, who, by drawing inspiration from their roots and personal identities, use their distinct perspectives to transcend boundaries and aesthetic limitations. Through a selection of feature-length documentary films, audiences will discover Denis Côté’s, A Skin So Soft, Émilie Serri’s Damascus Dreams, Miryam Charles’ This House, Jean-François Lesage’s, Prayer for a Lost Mitten, and Oksana Karpovych Don’t Worry, the Doors Will Open. Showcasing the creativity of Indigenous artists and the importance of the issues they bring to light, the Focus features a special program of short films, stemming from the ongoing collaboration between the RIDM and Wapikoni Mobile.
