DOKUFEST ANNOUNCES THE OPENING FILMAugust 1, 2019
A live cinema concert KOYAANISQATSI, a film by Godfrey Reggio and music by Radiomentale is set to open DokuFest XVIII.
KOYAANISQATSI is a renowned documentary that reveals how humanity has grown apart from nature. Drawing its title from the Hopi word meaning “life out of balance,” it features extensive footage of natural landscapes and elemental forces, with a gradual evolution to scenes of modern civilization and technology. The film’s lack of narration or dialogue allows its purpose to be realized through creative uses of imagery and an inventive musical score.
RADIOMENTALE’s new approach to the film will include a performance or sound piece, with a collage drawing on an eclectic range of audio sources, including sound experiments, movie soundtracks, ambient music, experimental & electronic music, natural sounds, fragment of interviews and human voice. Halfway between documentary and visual arts, the film with no dialogues describes a world, a planet between nature and artificial, between technology, urbanism, and wildlife. It is intended as a question about the evolution of our civilization.
