:Spring: The Story of Hsu Chin-Yu
Taiwan, 2002, 80 min
During the 1950s White Terror period in Taiwan, many young activists were arrested because the authority regarded them as communists and traitors to the nation. Over 10,000 men and women were put in jail or executed during this period of time. HSU Chin-yu was one of them. She was adopted by an ordinary family and started working since 14 years old. At the age of 24, she joined a study group where she was enlightened by the meetings, and later on participated in labour movement, which resulted in 15 years of prison time. Her life was changed since. The poetic and sympathetic approach of this film successfully illustrated her life and strength of mind.
