The Hottest August

United StatesCanada, 2019, 94 min, Colour

Seven months after Donald Trump assumes the American presidency, acclaimed filmmaker Brett Story journeyed to all five boroughs of New York City asking people a simple question: what are your hopes for the future? The result is a precise and artfully framed meditation, both incisive and moving, that encapsulates the uneasy way many of us live now. Sam Adams in 'Slate' writes, "Even face to face with a bleak future, The Hottest August is stepped in (the) kind of delight...that reminds us that there's beauty in the world, and a future that's worth fighting for."
