This edition of DokuFest, we are proud to present a very special exhibition by Daniel Bird and Elvin Brandhi happening on August 8, at Pyke Presje, opening at 18:00.
Screen tests, rejected title cards, sound effects, production memos, and a speech stenograph, are reworked into a séance interrogating the moment when Soviet avant-garde art collided with film factory bureaucracy.
This exhibition addresses the production history of Sayat Nova, or The Colour of Pomegranates, directed by Sergei Parajanov, between 1967 and 1969 in Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
We also have the pleasure to have another moment to share with Daniel Bird and Elvin Brandhi with their performance at Kino Lumi on August 9th with a live score to accompany a film by Daniel Bird made from raw scans of outtakes, screen and camera tests from Parajanov’s The Colour of Pomegranates (1969) shedding a light on the intersection of analogue and digital media at the beginning of the 21st century.
