Independent analysis shows every €1 invested in DokuFest creates €9 in economic activity, positioning the festival as a key cultural and economic driver for Kosovo.

DokuFest has commissioned and published a new independent study by GAP Institute that analyses the economic impact of the festival on Prizren and Kosovo. The report confirms what our audiences, partners and the people of Prizren experience every August: DokuFest is not only a space for films, music and public debate, it also plays a meaningful role in supporting local businesses, tourism and the wider creative economy.

DokuFest’s 24th edition, held in Prizren in August 2025, generated more than €5.2 million in visitor spending and contributed around €3.7 million to Kosovo’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to a new economic impact study conducted by GAP Institute.

For this year’s edition, GAP Institute surveyed festival visitors and analysed official turnover data from local businesses to better understand how DokuFest shapes spending patterns in the city and beyond. The study looks at how audiences use accommodation, gastronomy, transport and other services during the festival, and how the event attracts first-time visitors to Prizren and Kosovo.

As DokuFest, we see this report as part of our long-term commitment to transparency and to demonstrating that investment in culture is also an investment in local development. Over more than two decades, the festival has grown into a platform that combines film screenings, exhibitions, talks, workshops, educational programmes and music events and this research helps us and our partners understand the broader value of that work.

As we prepare for our 25th anniversary edition, the new GAP Institute study offers a strong message to local and international partners: investing in culture in Kosovo delivers measurable social and economic returns, from full cinemas and packed public squares to new jobs, new visitors and new stories shared with the world.

We invite institutions, media, partners and the wider public to read the full report by GAP Institute, available on our website, and to explore in more detail how DokuFest contributes to both the cultural and economic life of Prizren and Kosovo.
