This year, DokuFest, in collaboration with Swiss Films, places a special focus on contemporary Swiss cinema. Throughout the festival, audiences will have the opportunity to discover a diverse selection of Swiss short films, including animation, documentaries, and hybrid works, screening across Prizren's cinemas.

This collaboration, titled Different Frequencies – Swiss Shorts, extends throughout the festival programme. It begins with a dedicated selection of five films [see the programme order below], all of which have been screened at major international film festivals. From the Swiss Alps to fantastic journeys and high-stakes competitions, and from reality to imagination, separated only by the cinema screen, this programme invites audiences to discover some of the most exciting voices in contemporary Swiss filmmaking.

As part of the Special Screenings section, DokuFest audiences will have the opportunity to watch director Dea Gjinovci's feature-length documentary The Beauty of the Donkey. The film follows the director's father as he returns to his birthplace, Makermal, for the first time in fifty years, confronting a place profoundly transformed by the passage of time and the challenges it has endured.

As part of this collaboration, younger audiences will also find Swiss films featured in the DokuKids 6+ and DokuKids 10+ programmes, bringing stories that range from rain-soaked gardens to astral adventures. The full line-up of these programmes will be announced soon.

This year's connection with Swiss cinema is also reflected across other sections of the DokuFest programme. Heat, directed by Jacqueline Zünd, winner of the Best Performance Award at the Locarno Film Festival, competes this year in the Green Dox section. Meanwhile, The Language of Diaspora, directed by Swiss-born filmmaker Diell Curri, competes in the National section, exploring the spaces of the Albanian diaspora through language and cinematic experimentation.

Together, these films demonstrate the diversity of approaches and forms that define contemporary Swiss cinema today. Across these programmes, DokuFest creates a broader space for dialogue between its audiences and Swiss filmmaking, further strengthening the cultural and cinematic ties between Switzerland and Kosovo.
