Deciding with which film to kick start the festival is a task for the faint hearted. Sometimes this decision comes in naturally and sometimes intentionally. In this case, for the 25th edition of DokuFest, is an amalgame of both.
We are very happy to announce that out of the 223 films screening this year, PHENOMENA, will be the one to welcome you all to DokuFest, in all DokuFest fashion.
This intricate showcase into understanding how the fabric of the universe is made, makes it a deep dive into what makes us curious, how the world moves and the ability to just wonder and cease a moment in time.
It is described as a psychedelic journey: It indeed is. And it weaves with the unbelievable story of the festival, in which every turn around the corner has presented an unexpected series of events. The filmmaker, Joseph Gatti, takes us in a world of practical experiments and intertwines the limits of art and science. Captured entirely in-camera, without visual effects, the film combines striking imagery with music by Nils Frahm and Rival Consoles. Moving from the subatomic to the cosmic, it explores the forces shaping nature and our connection to the wonders of the universe.
Like the festival itself, PHENOMENA embraces the unexpected. Every turn reveals something surprising, making it a fitting opening for a milestone edition of DokuFest.
There could hardly be a better setting than Kino Lumi to experience this extraordinary audiovisual work on the big screen.
