Pietro Marcello was born in Caserta, Campania, in 1976. He first studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples. Self-taught, he made his debut as part of "participatory videos" shot in the prisons where he teaches, and as assistant director for Leonardo Di Costanzo's documentary Gennarino .
