In an impoverished former mining town in the American Southwest, a beloved druggist runs the community’s main hub: the sole pharmacy within 4,000 square miles. He eagerly plays multiple roles as surrogate doctor, life counselor, and community benefactor. His sanguine public persona, however, belies a long-suffered private pain for which there is no drug, no cure, and no relief.
Helen Hood Scheer made her directorial debut with “JUMP!” a documentary feature film about competitive jump rope that follows five teams of kids as they pursue their dream of becoming rope skipping world champions. She produced, shot, and co-wrote the project independently, and is now self-distributing DVDs. Born and raised in Venice, California, Helen earned a highest honors BA in American Studies and minor in History from University of California at Santa Cruz and a MFA in Documentary Film & Video from Stanford University.
