The “Short Film” and Its Audience

The “Short Film” and Its Audience

In partnership with Talking Shorts

Filmmakers want their films to be seen. With little to no place for short films in regular cinema venues, festivals are the first and foremost spaces for the art form’s exhibition. But how well-acquainted are regular moviegoers, festival visitors, and cinephiles with the art that is a short film?

What does a short film require when being screened, and how can a flourishing context for a short film be nourished? Film festivals aim to attract diverse and foster new audiences through inspiring programming. But how do they get there? And where else, online and offline, can audiences find short films, and can films find audiences?

If a short film asks for more guidance, who should be the guide? This panel talk explores audience development for short films through programming, distribution, and filmmaking.
