The woman, Fern, has fled from Thailand with husband and child in search of a better life. She now works as a bird-nest collector in the Malaysian swamps. But along the way she has lost something. Something which drives her to steal a baby from the beach. An action which is more complex than first anticipated.

<p>Jeppe Rønde (b. 1973, Denmark) had his feature length debut in 2003 with Jerusalem, My Love, which won international prizes at several film festivals. The Swenkas (2005), Jeppe’s second feature, won a prestigious Robert Award in Denmark in 2005 for “Best Feature Documentary” and Jeppe himself won a prize for Best International Director at Hot Docs in Toronto.<br /><br />
Woo Ming Jin (b. 1976, Malaysia) His work as a filmmaker and photographer has earned him a reputation as one of East Asia’s most promising talent. His second film, The Elephant and the Sea (2007), won awards in Torino, Cinema Digital Seoul, Portugal and Spain festivals. The Tiger Factory is only the third film in Malaysian history to be selected to the Cannes Film Festival.</p>
