Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, Switzerland and DokuFest - Prizren, Kosovo invite filmmakers from Kosovo to apply for a Short Film Production Grant.

The Applicants should submit a grant application detailing the genre, themes, plot, structure, setting and characters for their original short film (fiction or documentary). The most successful project will be awarded a maximum 8,000 CHF. In addition to the financial award, the selected project will be provided with equipment from DokuFest’s Film Production Centre, hence the budgeting for the equipment such as (cameras, sound recording devices, and basic lighting should not be part of the budget planning process). DokuFest will also provide editing space and equipment and DCP versioning for testing in the cinema. The final film must be completed by 30 June 2021 for premiere at Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur at latest, if not selected by other ‘A’ list festival.

Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur is held every year in November. It is considered the most significant short film festival in Switzerland. Kurzfilmtage attracts about 650 guests from the national and international film industry and welcomes around 17 500 visitors annually. Under certain conditions, films of Kurzfilmtage competitions qualify for nomination consideration for the OSCAR®, the BAFTA–Award, the European Film Award and the Swiss Film Award.

For the purpose of this award, a short film is defined as an original film with a running time of 30 minutes or less, including all credits.

DokuFest, a documentary and short film festival in Prizren, Kosovo, is regarded as one of the most important documentary film festivals in South Eastern Europe. Through its experiential educational film centre for teenagers and young artists DokuFest provides tools, know-how and a free expression space for future filmmakers and artivists. Under certain conditions, short films of DokuFest competitions qualify for nomination consideration for the BAFTA–Award.

The artistic approach, format and content for the three-minute video are open. Applicants will be assessed on the creativity and technical skill they demonstrate in their video, whether it’s the director speaking and explaining their vision or is of a trailer or a compilation of previous works.

The application is open for young filmmakers of all ethnicities from Kosovo born after 1990. The completed film has a guaranteed screening at Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur 2021 and DokuFest 2022.
