BEYOND SILENCE

Survivors, legal experts, historians, and regional guests will come together to talk—plainly and honestly—about war and conflict-related crimes trials, truth-seeking, and the long road to reconciliation.

Dealing with the Past exists to break the silence, amplify survivor voices, and contribute meaningfully to justice and reconciliation efforts across the Western Balkans.

Panelists & moderator:

Prof. Bella Murati - Legal scholar with expertise in international law, human rights, and humanitarian law. Holds a PhD from Ghent University and has worked with universities and international organizations.

Lidija Zelovic - Filmmaker and former journalist. Fled Sarajevo in the 1990s and now lives in the Netherlands. Her films explore memory, conflict, and the legacy of the war in Bosnia and Hercegovina.

Veton Surroi - Kosovar journalist, writer, and public intellectual. Founder of Koha Ditore and active in politics and civil society since the 1990s.

Nemanja Stjepanović - a researcher in the Outreach Programme for Communities Affected by Conflict at the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague. As part of this program, he works on educating and informing the public about the legacy of the Hague Tribunal.

Moderator: Sanjin Pejkovic - Film scholar and PhD candidate at Lund University. Focuses on post-Yugoslav cinema, memory, and representation of the past.
