The master class will delve into how modern democracies can be judged politically in terms of their capacity to make things appear or disappear, and their power of "exhibition," "underexposure," or "overexposure."
Drawing on the works of Walter Benjamin and Donna Haraway, as well as various cinematographic examples, the session will explore different aesthetic and political modes of action that subvert accepted partitions. It will also consider how these modes can work towards the "feasts of the imagination" Frantz Fanon spoke of—needs that perhaps have never been so urgent.
