Synopsis

Once thriving, a dead mall in upstate New York is now home to a ragtag flea market, living proof that the American Dream is in perpetual decay. Blending vérité with a stylized wit, this heart breaking portrait raises questions about our disposable culture through the unfiltered lives of its eccentric community.

Director Biography

Brian M. Cassidy is a filmmaker and photographer whose films (with partner Melanie Shatzky) have screened at the Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and Rotterdam film festivals, The Museum of Modern Art, The National Gallery of Art, The ICA London, and The Film Society of Lincoln Center in NYC. In 2012, Cassidy was nominated for a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Director. His most recent films are the documentary The Patron Saints and the dramatic feature Francine—starring Academy Award winner Melissa Leo—which The New York Times named a “Critics’ Pick” and called “a small gem of bleak, neorealist portraiture.”

Aaron Hillis was praised by Brooklyn Magazine as one of “The 100 Most Influential People in Brooklyn Culture,” alongside Lena Dunham, Spike Lee and Lupita Nyong’o. He is a filmmaker, programmer, festival host, and proprietor of Video Free Brooklyn (one of the last DVD rental stores in NYC). His writings have appeared in The Village Voice, Variety, VICE, and several other outlets that don’t start with V.

Jennifer Loeber is a NYC-born, Brooklyn-based photographer whose work has been published in The Los Angeles Times, GEO, PDN, CNN, Huffington Post, The Village Voice, VICE, Marie Claire, LINDA, Guernica, Le Journal de la Photographie, and GUP Magazine. She has received numerous honors, including the Barcelona International Photography Award (2015) and the Kuala Lumpur Photo Award (2015), along with being shortlisted for the Athens Photo Festival, Greece (2015) and a Terry O’Neill TAG award nomination (2012).
