At 16, Soraya, a gifted Afghan sculptor and illustrator living in Iran, dreams of joining her mother in Austria. Filmed remotely over five years by Mehrdad Oskouei using footage Soraya shot herself, the documentary follows her escape attempts, abusive marriage, and artistic journey. Through drawings, sculptures, and animations, Soraya transforms fear, hope, and resilience into powerful acts of self-expression.
Directors' Biography
Mehrdad Oskouei was born on September 12, 1969 in Tehran, Iran. He is a producer and director, known for Starless Dreams (2016), Sunless Shadows (2019) and Eclipse(Rouajgiran) (2001).
Soraya Akhlaghi is a multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, painting, and film since 2016.
