Synopsis

Distance is about memory and my relationship to water as I contemplate the reverberating effects from the broken bonds caused by the colonial state. Distance is about reflecting on the past and thinking through the histories of displacement forced upon First Nations within the Vancouver area, histories that are directly tied to my family. Director Biography

Sydney Frances Pickering is a member of Lil’wat nation. She is currently living and working on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
