Speaking with an AI: What a thrill!
A tale as old as time itself, humankind has always wondered what it would look like to interact humanly with an AI. Just like a glimpse of an Ian McEwan novel (Machines like me, ask your OpenAI buddy), it happened so, a human conversed with an AI meaningfully and we witnessed a palimpsest unfolding at the opening of DokuFest.

How will humans prevail over AI? It feels like a war, but it is rather an exciting challenge, one DokuFest is fully exploring this year. The program expands and unveils the threats, solutions, and multilayered conflicts the world is going through.

At Lumbardhi Bahçe, Eroll Shporta from DokuFest spoke with an AI entity on the importance of finding the nuances of reason, compassion, and the limits of creativity. This pragmatic yet artful approach helped kick off the film festival in full colors and emotions.

Discussing with an AI entity reflects the idea of how we will develop the language we speak, will it be unified? Will there be only one language to tell all stories? Will this language morph into a static and robotic one?
We do not know, but during the opening, one could only hope to hear a sigh, a breath, a sign of life.

The opening continued to unfold while the AI took the stake while singing a song whose lyrics spoke in an AI language. And there arises a question, if AI can invent a poem in a matter of seconds, why should we believe it when it speaks in impartial language?

The voice echoed in Lumbardhi Bahçe through its opening: O AI, O AI (a rather Shakespearian choice) while delving into the mysterious and magical realm of artificial intelligence.

As many have reflected up to now regarding the aftermath of AI in our lives, we know in our hearts of hearts it will be an accessory that will not fully be empathic and will not understand the nuances and complications of being human. AI will not even make mistakes like humans. A point that leads to why we are attracted to the big screens: the necessity to see a mistake develop and learn from it, the need to see a conflict resolve itself in the most absurd ways.

This year is all about keeping an open eye to the future, and not undermining the capabilities of AI. And yet to see a prosperous series of events unfolding while AI entities carry on their work and develop newer worlds.

After all, AI can make sense only if there is a human presence telling us this story.

The Opening followed with the screening of the 1986 film by Stanley Kubrick, “2001: Space Odyssey”, a classic and timeless story of how humans imagined the interaction with the unknown, the secrets of the future, and how we face what is not clear. We have to learn how to step into the dark bravely just like a monumental visual narration.

We announce DokuFest Open while inviting you all to visit as many venues as you can, see the documentaries and the films, attend DokuNights (a special line-up awaits you every night), be part of the DokuTalks and so much more!

In Prizren, there is a mesmerizing party happening and you have to be here!
