A filmmaker's portrayal of themself is not something very ordinary. The filmmakers themselves are the eyes of the audience and are there to give them what they cannot witness. What if a filmmaker has to prove themself to the audience?

In the days we live, every day involuntarily or willingly, everyone portrays themself to others. From the moment they wake up in the morning and walk down the street to the moment they post a selfie on social media, they are always documenting themself to those who see them. If we were to talk about this broad and long topic, of course, several philosophical theses would have to be touched upon, but DokuTalks on Sunday afternoon managed to bring to the audience another perspective, that of the three filmmakers who in their films had to document themselves.

Regarding all this with technology, the panelists Viera Čákanyová, Armel Hostiou, and Kit Vincent moderated by Dea Gjinovci shared their experiences related to this topic.

Filmmaker Viera Čákanyová in her discussion referred to her film "Notes from Eremocene", a project that sheds light on the potential of artificial intelligence and its impact. Convinced that portraying herself was not at all easy for her, she stated that she would no longer choose to be a character in her films.

The same view was shared by Kit Vincent, although for him, participating in the film “Red Herring” not only as a producer and filmmaker but also as a character had helped him not only to create a final product but also to create a closer relationship with the people of who had gotten to know him better through this film.

For Armel Hostiou, the filmmaker of "The Other Profile", documenting himself was not only a choice but a need to bring a final product as true and felt as possible.

The DokuTalk held this Sunday had a joyful participation accompanied by interactivity that increased the dynamics of this discussion.
