Synopsis

An episodic, dreamlike film about the waste of humanity. The film traces a journey through Africa, Europe & the USA, taking in the consequences of hyper-inflation, human-trafficking, electronic waste, the arms industry & death to show how goods such as sophisticated weaponry, cars, money, and even memories can turn into waste and how waste can unexpectedly change into valuables, as the symbolic meaning changes.

Director Biography

Media artist and filmmaker Jan Ijäs lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Studied documentary film directing in University of Art and Design Helsinki and creative writing and art education in Jyväskylä University. Ijäs works with documentary, fiction and experimental film. The films of Ijäs deals with serious and difficult social themes, like migration into foreign and hostile societies. Ijäs films have been shown widely abroad film festivals and as installations in museums and galleries.He has won numerous awards, including Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition Jury Award in 2012 the Finnish Risto Jarva Prize in 2011, Amnesty International Award at the IndieLisboa film festival in Portugal 2018.
