After receiving a Taliban death sentence, Afghan filmmaker Hassan Fazili decides to get his family to safety in Western Europe. Staying one step ahead of aggressive smugglers and right-wing nationalists, Hassan, his wife and two daughters capture their dramatic journey on mobile phones, pausing occasionally to contemplate the wonder and natural beauty all around them. A compelling look inside the refugee crisis, one of the great humanitarian challenges of our times. Alex Saveliev in ‘Film Threat’ calls Fazili’s doc, “a unique cinematic experience that will hopefully snap us all to reality."
Hassan Fazili has developed theater plays, documentaries, short films, and several popular television serials in Afghanistan. In 2011, he was selected by the British Council to attend Sheffield/DocFest for documentary filmmaking networking and training. His films Mr. Fazili’s Wife and Life Again! both push the envelope on issues of women’s, children’s and disability rights in Afghanistan, and have won awards at numerous international festivals.
