Synopsis

Combining unseen period footage with original scores from that era, 'Syncopated Ragtime' tells the story of Noble Sissle incredible life journey that spans "The Harlem Hellfighters" of World War I, Broadway Theatre, the Civil Rights movement, and decades of Black cultural production.

Director Biography

Daniel Bernardi is a cultural studies scholar and documentary filmmaker. His research explores the representation and narration of race in American film and television, and includes the award-winning book Star Trek and History: Race-ing Toward a White Future. His 2018 film, The American War, tells the story of the Vietnam War from the point of view of the Vietcong. David de Rozas is an award-winning filmmaker who addresses the politics of history and memory. His latest documentary Give (2017) has been programmed at over 20 international festivals including AFI Docs, True/False, Visions du Réel, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Kassel DocFest, and the inaugural Smithsonian African American Film Festival.
