Synopsis

The story of this film begins by discovering a beloved book that has had an impact in directors’ childhood at the place of old, used, almost unnecessary things. The story is accompanied with the text from the book “The desert and the rainforest” which perfectly fits the gloomy atmosphere that has hung over the flea market in Sarajevo. Following a working day of the people, the camera records the state of society, a community, and culture. Should a viewer remember past times when books found place on shelves she/he will understand the irony of this short film and a desire to express the need for change. Also, monologue of a retailer carries a significant role in the attitude towards the lifestyle of people working at the flea market. A lot has been said with a statement that these people are accustomed to work and honesty, to their own bread. Although covered with darkness of today’s society, and almost unrecognizable as the characters from the text book, “the desert and the rainforest” they are there to make sure of their own existence. The film ends with the optimistic sentence - that after the storm the rain comes. Here it has a calming, cleansing element for all of them, for books, for the audience.
