A documentary crew take a pub crawl through 1990s Derry (N. Ireland), observing the young revellers who give themselves to the night while the eyes of the security forces watch on. Using video archive and still images, 'That sanity be kept' explores being young, being watched and getting drunk during a ceasefire.

Michael Barwise is a director and documentary editor from Derry, N. Ireland. His work explores the dynamic between the known and the hidden and how the relationship between these two worlds impacts our lives.
His latest film 'That sanity be kept' won Best Short Documentary at Docs Ireland 2026 and received an Honourable Mention at Onion City Experimental Film Festival 2026.
