A former military barracks of the Wehrmacht now serves as a refugee camp for people from Ukraine. waking up in silence accompanies the children on their journey, where their own history intertwines with that of the barracks. A moment between past and future, war and silence, departure and arrival, which paints a portrait of German past and present through the eyes of its young protagonists.
Director
Mila Zhluktenko from Kyiv, Ukraine, studied documentary filmmaking at HFF Munich. Her films have screened at a number of international festivals. Opera Glasses won the Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig.
Daniel Asadi Faezi the director and producer studied documentary at HFF Munich and at the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan. His films have screened at numerous festivals. His experimental film Aralkum (co-directed with Mila Zhluktenko), won the Jury Prize for the Best Short Film at Visions du Réel.
