Synopsis

Jean, the youngest of a large family, grew up in a community under the influence of Chris, a spiritual guide. After receiving a tape from his sister who lives in seclusion, he rediscovers voices and sounds from his past. Memories begin to emerge and Jean decides to follow in Chris's footsteps, on a journey that will take him to Japan, Indonesia and Bulgaria. During this quest, he will discover his father's secret, years after his death.

Director Biography

Jean-Baptiste de Laubier is a French DJ, producer and director, born in 1979 in Orléans. He co-founded the music label Marble alongside Surkin and Bobmo. In 2001, he released the EP “Blue Rain” on Ablode Recordings. He met TTC, the Klub des loosers, Caution and the Svinkels in the early 2000s. He collaborated with TTC on the album “Ceci n’est pas un disque”. In 2005, after graduating from la Fémis, he began directing the soundtracks of Céline Sciamma's films: “Water Lilies”, “Tomboy”, “Girlhood”, “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” and, recently, “Petite maman”. In 2009, he directed the short film “It was on earth that I knew joy” for the Sixpack France label. The film was presented at the Scion Gallery in Los Angeles. “Specter: Sanity, Madness and The Family” is his first feature film.
