Taking two anti-racist and anti-authoritarian liberation movements in South London and Chicago’s South Side as a point of departure, South presents an expressionistic investigation of the power of individual and collective voice. Interlinked with Morgan Quaintance’s own biography, the film also considers questions of mortality and the will to transcend a world typified by concrete relations.
Director
A selection of moving image work by the artist named above who is Morgan Quaintance and who is also based in London though he can barely afford to live here and is desperately trying to find a way to experience a quality of life that is commensurate with the size, shape and generosity of his spirit (if there is such a thing) and is somewhat cowed by the knowledge that this will likely not be attainable in his lifetime unless by the "grace" of some DEUS EX MACHINA that he waits patiently for because…well…we all need hope.
