A quarantine meditation on the scent of exile, told through the stories of family roots in Los Angeles and living in the shadow of the US/Mexico Border.
Erin Wilkerson is a political artist, poet, and filmmaker. Her work is focused on social, feminist, and colonial critique, through personal storytelling, historical investigation, analysis of environmental catastrophe, and weighted by growing up near the US/Mexico border. She co-founded the political art collective, Creative Agitation with her partner, Travis Wilkerson, to create work that marries politics and aesthetics - art that acts as a bomb for change - and their work was featured in the Slovenian Pavilion of the Venice Biennale, and their film, “Machine Gun or Typewriter” has screened internationally. Her recent mixed media work is a direct response to living in the US Rust Belt. Explored through the lens of the post-industrial landscape, she seeks to destroy the canon as complicit in the censure of works for social progress and environmental reform, and in the propagation of hateful imagery of women and race.
