Synopsis

Traversing time and continents WATCHERS OF THE SKY is a feature-length documentary that examines the cycle of violence, and the world’s response, from a variety of angles – historical, psychological, political, legal, and experiential. Inspired by Samantha Power’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “A Problem From Hell,” director Edet Belzberg brings viewers into traditionally inaccessible places and introduces memorable characters, weaving together four modern stories while uncovering the forgotten life of Raphael Lemkin, the tenacious inventor of the word ‘genocide.’ WATCHERS OF THE SKY takes you on a journey from Nuremberg to Rwanda, from Bosnia to Darfur, and from apathy to action.

Belzberg’s directorial debut, CHILDREN UNDERGROUND, was nominated for an Academy Award and won the Sundance Film Festival’s Jury Prize, the International Documentary Association’s Documentary Award, and the Gotham Awards’ Documentary Achievement Prize, among many others.
