The director and cameraman of this graduation film from the Moscow film school (VGIK) are of Armenian extraction. The film is a personal, artistic reckoning with a dramatic event in the life of the young filmmaker: the loss of her father, who committed suicide at the age of 21. The film is an attempt to reconstruct his life and being. A man she doesn’t have a single memory of.
Maria Saakyan (1980, Armenia) moved when twelve from Armenia to Russia. She studied in Russia from 1997 to 2003 with Vladimir Kobrin at the Russian State Institute for Cinematography (VGIK) where she made short animation and experimental films.
