The film ‘Doma’ deals with the relationship between Macedonians and Croats, distinctive on many levels within both regional and global framework, and presented with a strong individual approach. The testimonies of protagonists include those of a former drug addict providing assistance to other addicts, a member of Komaja (a religious cult propagating liberal sex philosophy), a bohemian Macedonian musician, a teenage Manga-artist who attended primary school in both countries, an actor (Albanian by nationality) who moved to Croatia as a ‘love immigrant’ and ended up a waiter, a pregnant woman nostalgic for her youth, a fashion stylist who moved to Croatia for professional reasons, and a young man in doubt whether to become a catholic, an orthodox or a martial artist. Their stories refer to a lot of hot issues, such as age difference, sexual orientation, economic and professional realization of a person, comparison of urban vs. small town life, religion as a component of an identity, addiction to drugs as a symbol of deterioration and the feelings towards homeland ranging from nostalgia to pragmatism.
