DokuFest is delighted to announce a specially curated strand of films about film for its upcoming edition of the festival, featuring a number of outstanding and different takes on famous filmmakers and equally famous and often unusual characters.
In The Eyes of Orson Welles, the inimitable Mark Cousins has created another cinematic love letter to equally inimitable titan of the filmmaking that Welles was, whereas Jane Magnuson continues her fascination with another of the great filmmaker of all time, Ingmar Bergman, in her examination of a pivotal year in a carrier of famous Swede in a Bergman: A Year In A Life.
That Summer by another Swedish filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson brings a refreshing look at some of the most famous and eccentric characters in non-fiction cinema and a sort of prequel to a seminal work Grey Gardens by Maysles brothers.
Another fascinating character can be found in Elwira Niewiera’s and Piotr Rosolowski’s The Prince and the Dybukk about a famous producer Moshe Walks and his life long obsession of making a Dybukk movie.
That stars can be characters of the film look no further than at Johan Lurf’s ★ a brilliant exploration of 100+ years of visual representation of, yes, stars in the history of cinema.
“In a year strong with films about filmmakers or films it was pure delight to work on, and a great satisfaction to present a program like this at DokuFest”, says Artistic Director Veton Nurkollari.
