The project participants are invited to Prizren, to a series of workshops and master classes, to further develop their ideas into the realization of 6 short documentaries covering the theme of human rights. Workshops covered themes such as: Project development, research, documentary directing, editing and dubbing.
Development Workshop: July 2011
The first workshop covering initial idea development, project research and basics of pitching techniques will take place from 6 to 11 of June 2011, in Dokufest Film Centre in Prizren.

Iris Elezi studied film theory and criticism, Anthropology and women’s studies in the US.
She went on to further studies at the Tisch School of the Arts – NYU where in 2001 she received a degree in producing and directing. Collective memory, the insider/outsider perspective and preoccupations of time are some of the essential inquiries underlying her work which can be found in her shorts The Last Leaf (1998), Suicide Inc. (producer, 2001) and Renaissance (producer, 2001). Iris Elezi continues to live and work in the Albanian capital of Tirana, where she teaches film analysis at the embattled Academy of Film and Multimedia Marubi.
Thomas Logoreci is an Albanian-American filmmaker who produced and edited the critically acclaimed 2005 IFC Films / Miramax feature I Am A Sex Addict directed by Caveh Zahedi. The film played at over thirty theatres worldwide and won the New York Gotham Award for Best Film Not Playing at a Theatre Near You.
Nebojsa Siljepcevic took a degree in Film and TV Directing at the ADU in Zagreb. Selected films: ‘In 4 Years’, ‘Start – The End’ (co-directed with Biljana Čakić, First Prize of the One-minute Film Festival in Požega), ‘Vinko on the Roof’ (Best Script Award at FRKA), documentary serial ‘Direkt’ (35 episodes; Best Script Award at DHF for the 35th episode, ‘Without Dad’; Audience Award at ZagrebDox), documentary program ‘City Folk – Zagreb’ (Cross Border Prix Circom Program Award, Liverpool, shown on a dozen of European TV stations). In 2011, he made his first animated film – ‘Dog/Rabbit’. He is currently working on the feature-length documentary film ‘Gangster Loves You’.
Directing Workshop: July 2011
The second workshop covering basics of directing documentary took place during the 10th edition of DokuFest, from 23-31 July 2011. The workshop brought together the participants and industry-renowned names.
The tutors for the directing workshop:
James Longley studied film and Russian Language at the University of Rochester and Weselyan University in the US, and the All-Russian Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow. His documentary films show intimate portraits of ordinary people living in the Middle East, under conditions of war and economic devastation. James was twice nominated for an Oscar for his documentary films, Iraq in Fragments and Sari’s mother. In addition, Iraq in Fragments was the only documentary film to receive three jury awards from Sundance Film Festival. In 2006, Longley was awarded MacArthur ‘Genius’, a 500.000 $ grant as a support for his work. He is currently working on his new project in Pakistan.
Mohsen Makhmalbaf, born on 1957 in Tehran, is a major figure in Iranian cinema. His work have been presented in more than three hundred film festivals worldwide and his film Kandahar was chosen as one of the best 100 films in the history of world cinema by Times magazine. Makhmalbaf belongs to the Iranian New Wave movement of cinema, while his films often focus on autobiographical and childhood themes. Although his films won more than 110 international awards, several of them are banned in Iran from being shown.
Editing workshop 07-14 April 2011
The last workshop of the program on film editing took place in april 2012. The participants learned how to transform their short documentaries from a rough cut to a final cut. The tutors for this workshop were Iris Elezi and Thomas Logoroeci, film directors and lecturers at the Academy of Film Marubi in Tirana.
