Synopsis

The Miners’ Hymns combines original aerial photography and archival clips with an original score by Jóhann Jóhannsson to tell the story of British coal mining in North East England. With minimal text and no spoken words, it illustrates the dangerous lives of those who worked underground, whilst marking the demise of the mining industry.

Director Biography

Has had films screen at festivals, museums, and concert halls worldwide, including Sundance, the Tate Modern, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. MoMA acquired eight of his titles. He has received the Alpert Award and fellowships from Creative Capital, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the NEA.
