Take a step in solidarity #WithRefugees.April 12, 2020
The year 2017 will be remembered as a historic moment in Kosovo’s film industry. What started as a modest initiative of renowned British filmmaker and DokuFest’s long term collaborator Daniel Mulloy, transformed into an ambitious project that brought together a film festival from Kosovo, film production companies from the UK, the United Nations and world cinema stars Jack O’Connell and Holliday Grainger for a humane cause, in this case for refugees.
Three years later, the outbreak of COVID-19 has placed literally the whole world into quarantine. While most people around the globe are applying social distancing, millions of refugees stranded in overpopulated camps, with scarce soap and water find it extremely difficult and often impossible to take the necessary precautions, such as social distancing and vigilant hygiene.
The coronavirus, which has already infected almost 2 million people around the globe, could rip through these camps with devastating speed and mortality. More than 65 million people worldwide have been forced to flee violence, conflict and persecution, millions more have left everything behind fleeing disasters. In 2016 Daniel Mulloy decided to respond to the ongoing refugee crisis. He partnered with the United Nations and DokuFest, among other bodies, to do this and create ‘Home’.
Refugees need our support, now more than ever. Every one of us can play a role, big or small, in helping refugees to thrive in the communities that host them. Take a step, no matter big or small, in solidarity #WithRefugees.
