When we started the film school “Future is Here” six years ago, little did we know that we are going to inspire many generation of young talents to turn their passion into solid and inspiring projects.
This year marks the sixth generation of high school students who passionately enrolled the training camps organized by our “School and Documentary” educational program that focuses on practical nature of filmmaking by getting a camera in your hands from the first day. These young and aspiring filmmakers are facing a shifting landscape with the technology advancements, including important changes in how they learn. A group of experienced tutors are there to bridge them into a world they would otherwise find too difficult to enter.
The sixth edition accepted 15 young enthusiasts from 88 applications to join the first – summer camp – to undergo the intensive training sessions through DokuFest’s documentary production center, through the process guided by professionals in the field, from the brainstorming and pre-production to the final phases. Their curiosity for the world around them is a key for bringing a transformative aspect to the workshops.
Finally, seven promising projects have been selected to be further guided by tutors of the program Blerta Zeqiri, Gullermo Careras-Candi, Emilio Guerra, Gazmend Bajri, Hakan Karamuço and our own Samir Karahoda. Placing the cameras on their hands to tell their stories and create greater awareness on the social issues created the love for the process of storytelling among these seven magnificent students.
Their films are personal accounts of their lives with important and diverse stories. The wide range of topics address the issue of how social media shapes the everyday lives of teenagers, or how prejudice and discrimination affects the life of a young person in Kosovo. A Roma student decided to film a holiday that symbolizes happiness which is celebrated with a lot of pride by Roma community, whereas another young and aspiring filmmakers story is about magical Creatures of the Albanian mythology that posses supernatural powers and extraordinary beauty.
The stories of our young heroes are mirrors of our society, reflecting hope and optimism, thus we’d like to invite you to join the screenings and meet these talented young people at DokuFest’s landmark River Cinema under the banner “Future is Here”.
