Taiwan, 2000, 60 min
Lan-yu is a very small island near Taiwan inhabited by the indigenous Tao tribe. The filmmaker is a sound recordist and has known the middle-age indigenous protagonist Mamuno for a long time. Mamuno was forced to leave his hometown and beloved ocean when he was young. After decades, he finally returned to the island where he belongs after suffering from stroke. As experienced by many other indigenous people, life is a struggle, and so is destiny.

Hsiang-chu TANG is an acclaimed sound recordist as well as a documentary director. His works invariably hold fast to his strong concern for the human condition. His homecoming trilogy, How Deep is the Ocean, How High is the Mountain, and How Long is the Road, won wide acclaim and received various awards, including the Golden Horse Best Documentary. Pusu Qhuni is his fifth documentary.
