DOKUNIGHTS 2018 LINE-UP ANNOUNCED

We are super-excited to unveil the full and massive DokuNights line-up, sharing with you the performing artists, timelines and locations for our upcoming festival. This year’s bold and courageous line-up covers a thoughtful selection and calls for an openness in taste, alternatives and attitudes.

FRIDAY AUGUST 03

QENDRESA 
Qendresa is a soul singer born in London with kosovan heritage, who is influenced by a wide rang  of music, particularly 80s 90’s and 2000’s rnb. She now leads her own NTS show each month where she plays all the music that inspires her, occasionally playing music she’s made herself too. From slow jamz to Grime, Qendresa brings her own brand of energy behind the decks.

DRUG§TORE x Klub 20/44  
w/ ERIC CLOUTIER x BORUSIADE x SCHWABE x STEVIE WHISPER
Drugstore Beograd has joined forces with the legendary Klub 20/44 and will together host a raw and dark all-nighter at the upcoming DokuNights; featuring a super exciting line-up with Detroit-born aficionado and a deeply knowledgable selector Eric Cloutier and his warm, dubby, hypnotic house + techno; uncompromising artist Borusiade who’ll be serving up bold and bruising combinations of minimal wave, dark disco, and acidic, rough-shod house; One of the most deserving people who has contributed to the quality of the program and overall success of boat 20/44 and founder of the cult Disco not Disco party series, Schwabe will bring us his collection of seductive rhythms, ambient music and ethnic influences; Drugstore Resident and member of Mystic Stylez + SuperSizeShe, Stevie Whisper with his eclectic mix of dark wave EBM and ghetto-tech.

SUNDAY AUGUST 05

NESESARI KAKALULU x KOMNENI
An orchestra of nine instrumentalists combining special grooves, collective improvisation, and sub-saharan rhythms, Nesesari Kakalulu will take us dancing with their explosive and colorful sounds. The band was established for the sole purpose of creating rhythmically orientated music which would enchant listeners with positive vibrations and desire to dance, and that’s all we’re up to. The night will follow a set of Dj. Komneni from Tirana, making his way through a meditative and mystic energy in electronic music. The seed of his sets grows in an undefined ground, creating a mix of emotions between cosmic disco and tribal rhythms. Groovy and smooth these acts will definitely pump the dance floors and so will you.

MONDAY AUGUST 06 

ANGRY YOUTH: KILLA P x WALLWORK x TSVI x GREYWAN x ZGJIM
Our own Angry Youth will again present a mind-bending program that will further expand you notions of modern clubbing. Co-founders of Nervous Horizonand Acid Fantasy core family TSVI & Wallwork will demonstrate a new standard of laser-like precision, to be joined on stage by none other than London’s grime MC veteran Killa P. AY’s Greywan & Zgjim on the opening and closing section of the night. No genres, all betters.

TUESDAY  AUGUST 07 

SEBASTIAN MULLAERT (live) x CONFORCE x ARR
An event with two key figures of the electronic music scene on a night to reflect the stars in us. A potent force in the world of electronic music, Sebastian Mullaert live performances are awe-inspiring, combining technical wizardry with energy, atmosphere and euphoria. All this combined with Conforce fragile ambient recordings on one end of the scale and heavy, floor-focussed beats on the other while our own ARR set of deep and hypnotic techno opens up the party.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 08    

NO RECESS: !!! CHK CHK CHK x AMBASADi x UJ PA GAZ
We bring you a night curated by Prishtina’s local art platform No Recess, with a show of the ever-evolving and legendary Brooklyn-based dance-punk band !!! (Chk Chk Chk) who will be performing their latest album Shake the Shudder. Homegrown AMBASADI will open the show with Bledar Boraku on guitar, Dritëro Nikqi on guitar/synths, Liburn Jupolli on keys, and a special guest on drums, while Uj Pa Gaz will close it with a special live set straight from Tirana.

THURSDAY AUGUST  09        

MYKKI BLANCO x GAMBLEMANIA x MATALE
Join us for a brutally real and raw performance with the always evolving radical rapper, artist, poet and activist Mykki Blanco. His performance will be followed by our very own & beloved Gamblemania, who will gamble with different music styles and gradually transforming us from old to new school!The night will be closed by Matale, DJ pioneer of Prishtina’s queer and drag clubbing. Come along as you are…as bold as love!

FRIDAY AUGUST 10    

RANDOMER x SAUD x JON DUJAKA
Heady and hard master of the dark arts and one of the UK’s finest producers and DJ’s, Randomer will effortlessly stitch together modern bass and classic techno with thuddy kicks and dark overtures. The night will be opened with our own upcoming and exciting new electronic artist Jon Dujaka and closed with SAUD’s hectic rhythms and polymorphous layers, bringing out the restrained zeal in us.

FRIDAY AUGUST 10    

SOUNDWALK COLLECTIVE
International genre-bending group of artist-musicians Spundwalk Collective  (Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli dhe Kamran Sadeghi) will be performing their latest album WHAT WE LEAVE BEHIND, drawing on legendary film director Jean-Luc Godard’s personal archives of reel-to-reel, shot film and outtakes. The collective produces concept albums, sound installations, and live performances, and have worked with a diverse range of collaborators, from Nan Goldin and Patti Smith to Berghain and Zaha Hadid.

SATURDAY AUGUST 11          

SAZ’ISO
Legendary singers and  virtuoso  performers of the mesmerizing Saz’iso will close DokuFest XVII with songs of love and sorrow, with a mesmerizing style of thrilling harmonies, joyful dances and soulful laments. It will be our bittersweet farewell to you on our closing night, at our favorite Lumbardhi Cinema on August 11th.

KATIKA IN LOOPS
An audiovisual live remix of Katika tracks featuring Timo Novotny. Katika, the singer and songwriter will perform live to old and new loops. Not only captivating for Italian Bossanova Listeners also a spectacle thru the world. Cinematic Loops will bring the singer in new perspective! A PREMIERE!

SUNDAY 05 AUGUST        

FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER
Raster – Noton cofounder Frank Bretschneider will bring his musical-visual work »EXP«, which he based on the idea that fine art should attain the abstract purity of music. ur castle will become the site of an abstract audio-visual work composed of specifically generated and selected waveforms, feedbacks, impulses, clicks; the sound of mechanics, electricity, magnetism, light and other radiation.

MONDAY 06 AUGUST        

METROCOSMOS – a live subway rmx of “Trains of Thoughts” by Timo Novotny
This show is a Timo Novotny´s first solo Act. He is featuring his film with SOFA SURFERS music and remixes it on stage with live DJVJ scratching and many more features. Not only for Metrophiles. This subway remix shows a new Metrocosmos!

FEMALE RHAPSODY PERFORMANCE
We will be reflecting the goddesses in us with a performance of Kosovar female rhapsody at our fortress gardens, bringing us genuine stories and voices so often unheard. Join us for a celebration of Kosova’s women strength and creativity.
