Cinema at Your Door

About

The Cinema at Your Door is a project based on a concept of Traveling Cinema and has been designed as a pop-up cinema in the suburban locations and rural villages.

The project was initiated in 2012 with a financial support of Prince Claus Fund, Netherlands. The activity has significantly increased the demand for qualitative cultural content. During the entire project implementation the project team has received requests from various communities to extend the project activities to these locations. To meet all of the demands from local communities DokuFest partnered with Humanitarian Law Centre in Kosova to include the Travelling Cinema to locations where they organize workshops on Dealing with the Past and Transitional Justice, by including films from DokuFest production into the program catalogue to trigger the debate.

Most importantly, the Traveling Cinema is a component that is now being included in all project activities of the Organization. DokuFest has to date increased the number of its essential staff to 18 people involved in various projects, and has managed to open a permanent cinema in the city of Prizren: DokuKino.

Now the traveling cinema is a key component of the educational program “Schools and Documentaries” as well as support to all organizations in Kosovo that have plans to utilize documentary and educational films as a means of conveying messages to the most deprived communities throughout Kosovo.

The follow up plan for further expansion of the program through documentary film screenings is to provoke awareness and stimulate stronger public debate about socio-economic situation of the rural regions in the country; democracy and human rights issues, ecology and preservation of the cultural heritage thus stimulating stronger and more coherent social cohesion, through visual art and documentary film; as well as promotion and use participatory educational platform for youth through educational cultural, artistic activities, therefore facilitating raising awareness on democratic issues and improving civic participation among youth population in the border area.
