Saz’iso will close the 17th edition of DokuFest with songs of love and sorrow, with a mesmerizing style of thrilling harmonies, joyful dances and soulful laments.
This hand-picked ensemble, brought together by veteran producer Joe Boyd (Pink Floyd, Toumani Diabaté, Nick Drake) and co-producers Andrea Goertler and Edit Pula, is comprised by some of the legendary singers and virtuoso performers of the mesmerizing style of Saze, originating around the beautiful towns of Korça and Përmet.
As Vasil S. Tole, Albania’s leading expert on iso-polyphony puts it: “Saze remains to this day the musical language of the cities of Southern Albania, where East and West embraced when European instruments collided with the magic of a cappella iso-polyphony, and where life and death still coexist in a sound that is truly unique.”
The band will be performing their highly praised debut album ‘“At Least Wave Your Handkerchief At Me: The Joys and Sorrows of Southern Albanian Song”, brining us its songs that tell of joy and sorrow, love and loss, heroism and tragedy. It will be our bittersweet farewell to you on our closing night, at our favorite Lumbardhi Cinema on August 11th.
