DokuNights this year kicks off with punk rock the way it is meant to be: raw, fun and edgy! Finland’s most kick-ass punk rock band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (Perti Kurikka’s Name Day) will perform on 17th of August in Prizren as a starting event of DokuNights.
The band members – Pertti, Kari, Toni and Sami, are mentally handicapped and they play their music with a lot of attitude and pride. The band’s biggest influences are Finnish punk bands from the last millennium, such as Karanteeni, Kollaa kestää, Ratsia, Sensuuri, Ypö-Viis and Pelle Miljoona. The subjects of their lyrics range from social problems to unpleasant pedicures.
Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät is the subject of the documentary The Punk Syndrome, by Jukka Kärkkäinen and J-P Passi. The film follows the band’s road from obscurity to the general public popularity. We are screening the film under this year’s Focus Nordic programme, showcasing a selection of Nordic documentaries and short films.
The full DokuNights line-up will be announced on July 24th on festival’s website.
